Vice President of Product Management
Reporting to the President/Founder, The Vice President of Product Management will be primarily responsible for driving the vision and process for collecting, analyzing and prioritizing the market requirements for the VSS product line, and for disseminating priority product requirements to the product development organization. As the company scales existing markets and gains traction in new markets, the Vice President of Product Management, will play a major role, driving the pricing methodology, competitive positioning and functionality roadmap based upon direct customer and strategic partner feedback. He/she will also invest appropriate time interacting with analysts, potential partners, customers and other constituent groups to remain current on trends and shifts in the marketplace that impact the product direction, as well as to represent the company in the marketplace as a spokesperson.
Essential Duties:
- Vision & Product Strategy: Establish and execute a vision and direction for going to market and advancing VSS product lines to grow revenue while driving accelerated growth in existing and new markets based on customer and market requirements.
- Technical Expertise: Must have passion for network infrastructure and tools industry. Should have expert (SME) knowledge or be considered industry expert in two or more of the following: Network Monitoring, Network Security, Telecommunication (4G/LTE), Virtualization/Cloud Networks, Traditional Infrastructure, Software Defined Networking (SDN), and Cyber/Forensic Security.
- Build great products with a team of talented and passionate people looking to take market leading technology and extend market success.
- Hire, lead and work with a team of product managers, information architects, visual designers to ensure long-term product leadership and strategy.
- Lead the generation of annual and quarterly product roadmaps and guide product development and own the product roadmap.
- Take input of customer needs from focus groups, feedback, conversations, and metrics as input along with internal vision and needs to form informed recommendations on product opportunities.
- Be the diplomat who mediates and campaigns for what’s best for the business and our customers.
- Collect, analyze and prioritize market requirements for current and future products.
- Work with prospects and customers to ensure a strong outside participation in product planning, while creating a reference base of customers for channels, partners, analysts and investors.
- Partner with the leadership and development teams to establish a clear, consistent and market-based product strategy and roadmap.
- Evangelize the product to industry analysts, channels, alliance partners and customers.
- Work with engineers to drive releases and iterate/features products quickly in a rapid development environment.
- Lead product strategy, roadmap and requirements definition, and assist with defining marketing initiatives.
- Work with the Director of Sales Operations to train internal and external sales and support teams, and customers.
- Work with the Director’s of Solutions Marketing to coordinate the communication of marketing for all products, product development, and marketing campaigns.
- Drive pricing methodology, competitive positioning and functionality roadmaps based upon direct customer, strategic partner feedback, and careful market analysis.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Experience Level: 10+ years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree or above in BA, Marketing, or related field. With a minimum of 8+ years leading efforts related to product management and/or product marketing in the network industry.
- Process/Hands-on: Must be a hands-on leader who leads by example and comfortable rolling up sleeves and getting involved in pre/current/post engineering processes including but not limited to providing strategic direction and insight for PRDs, assessing priorities and acting accordingly, creation of white papers and assisting in gathering customer data. Ideal candidate would have been in numerous successful startups and medium-large organizations and can bring a blended level of process and knowledge into a high growth company that is continuing to rapidly grow.
- Technical Knowledge & Skills: Must have an expert hands-on understanding and knowledge of 2 or more of the following: telecommunications (4G/LTE), network monitoring, network security, traditional infrastructure (10GB/100GB+), virtualization and cloud networking, cyber security, network forensics, or lawful interception technologies. Ideal candidate should have deep knowledge of existing and future landscapes for the above mentioned verticals and markets, and can help expand and strategically position VSS product lines where already profitable, but more importantly position VSS products into new markets and verticals to guarantee continued growth and success.
- Communication: Expert written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to build relationships over the phone. Must be able to influence and direct a management team or team of individual contributors. Must be able to present to large groups of people. Must be able to communicate regularly with executives.
- Business Acumen: Must have an expert understanding of company financial measures. Should have deep experience in BOM management, price setting/SKU management, while working with F&A to maintain healthy gross margin.
- Problem Solving: Expert analytical skills. Must be able to work through complex, enterprise level issues with a methodical approach. Experienced in analyzing complex issues, distilling and communicating their relevant aspects.
- Work Style: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including executive team members. Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must be detail oriented in treatment of pricing and contracts. Must be able to adapt and work quickly to shifts in priorities and the business.
